It is recommended that we eat at least five pieces of fruit or vegetables each day but it is not always easy to eat plenty of fruit. Drinking smoothies are a great way to get all the nutrients from the different fruits. Below are ten of my favourite fruits and the ways that they can be prepared:
Apples can be diced and eaten raw. They can also be cooked in a pie. They can also be blended in a smoothie with other fruits.
Bananas need to be peeled and can be sliced and eaten.
Berries such as blackberries, strawberries and raspberries.
Guava can be eaten raw and can also be blended.
Mangoes do not need to be peeled and can be eaten raw. they can also be blended
Oranges need peeling but are great in a smoothie.
Pears are quite tough and not suitable for smoothies but taste great raw or cooked in a pie.
Persimmons can also be sliced and eaten raw. Allow them to soften first.
Tomatoes are actually a fruit and probably the most versatile. They can be eaten raw and blended into sauces and smoothies.
Watermelon is very refreshing in the summer months as an alternative to water.
